What Inspired the Creation of DASS?
From the founder, Marissa Brubaker:
My background in dentistry allows me to guide patients through the dental process from start to finish. I’ve spent most of my career in clinical settings—working in high-production offices, small family-owned clinics, mobile practices, DSOs, and more. I’ve seen the full spectrum of care: from unethical treatment to truly patient-centered dentistry.
Wanting to grow beyond the clinical role, I explored other sides of the industry. I worked in franchised, startup, and corporate dental sales, and became a licensed insurance producer. Partnering with major dental insurance companies gave me a clearer understanding of how the system really works—and how often patients are left to figure it out on their own.
After more than 20 years in the dental field, one thing became clear: adults and seniors—especially those with complex health needs or cognitive decline—are often marginalized in dental settings. They’re rushed through appointments, given little explanation, and excluded from important decisions. Yet they’re also the ones most likely to face extensive or phased treatment plans that require clear understanding, planning, and support.
That gap in care is what pushed me to act.
I created Dental Advocacy Support Services to change that. Everyone deserves to be heard, to fully understand their options, and to receive care that reflects their goals—not just what’s fastest or easiest.
This work is about restoring dignity, building trust, and making sure no one has to face dental care alone.
